Interview With Astrologer Katie Huang
2020 was the year of exploring astrology and spirituality as a way of bringing comfort to our lives. As we introduced zodiac crystals and oils into our routines many of Team Twiin took this extra time at home to explore a more holistic approach to self care.

So we sat down with Love By Luna founder and female entrepreneur Katie Huang to discuss everything from how to use healing crystals, the meaning of crystals for zodiac signs and how to get into astrology as a beginner.

Katie is the author of Crystal Zodiac: An Astrological Guide to Enhancing Your Life With Crystals, founder of Love By Luna, co-founder of MoonBox and co-host of Sex Magic Podcast. We were so happy she was able to take some time out of her packed schedule to speak to us and share her knowledge on all things astrology crystals.

How did you get into astrology?
If you had told me five years ago that I’d be running two astrology-inspired companies, co-hosting a podcast on the connections between sexuality and spirituality, and have a published book out on astrology and crystal healing, I wouldn’t have believed you. But here I am.

What started as a simple business idea of creating a zodiac-themed brand turned into so much more than I could’ve ever imagined. Before I founded my first astrology-inspired company, Love By Luna, in late 2015, my experience with the subject was rather limited. Besides reading my horoscope in Teen Vogue growing up, I didn’t know much about astrology. Yes, I was as skeptical as the next person about it. Yes, I thought it was most likely a pseudoscience. Yes, I wondered how people could truly believe in it. However, once I actually researched the system of astrology, understood how it worked, and saw its potential for introducing larger discussions of mental health awareness and mindfulness from an inclusive, positive space, I was inspired to share what I had learned. From that point on, I went on to co-found MoonBox, a self-care subscription box service aligned with the lunar cycle, started co-hosting the Sex Magic Podcast, and earlier last year, my first book, Crystal Zodiac: An Astrological Guide to Enhancing Your Life With Crystals, was just released!

How do you respond to people who are not convinced of astrology and crystals?
Ultimately, throughout my journey, I realized that astrology and crystal healing aren’t just for mystics, and that you don’t need to “believe” in them in order to receive value and insights from them. Bottom line, astrology isn’t the fanatical, quasi-religion that many perceive it to be. It doesn’t replace logic. It doesn’t replace science. It doesn’t replace critical thinking. It’s not the end-all-be-all, and it certainly shouldn’t be used as a singular source of guidance. However, it does have tremendous value as a tool of mindfulness, introspection, and personal growth, and the best part is—anyone can learn how to use it. No fancy products or prior experience required. The only thing you need is an open mind.

What is the best way to use the crystals?
I believe the best way to use crystals is doing whatever feels right to YOU. A lot of people get stuck on doing things the “proper” way, but what they don’t realize is that how you choose to work with crystals is completely unique to you. It’s just like exercise or nutrition in the sense that what works for one person may not work for another. While some people may enjoy silently meditating with their crystals, others might prefer more active practices such as intention setting or creating crystal grids.

Since human beings have different wants and needs, it’s important to take those into consideration whenever establishing a new routine or habit. That being said, keeping an open mind is helpful when figuring out how to use your stones. If you don’t connect to a specific practice, simply move on and try something else out.  However, I will say that regardless of how you choose to use your stones, there are general safety/handling rules that everyone should be aware of. For instance, not all stones are safe to use in water, as certain ones can dissolve upon contact with water (such as selenite) or release harmful toxins (like pyrite). What sparks joy for you in these difficult times?
Whether through difficult times or not, it’s always been the little things that spark joy for me. Something as simple as a cup of tea in the morning or lighting a candle as the evening winds down. Witnessing flowers and leaves falling from the trees outside. These simple things are what truly feed my soul. In these ordinary moments of existence, I learn to gather my strength, remain grounded, and most importantly, give gratitude for the precious gift of life I’ve been given. To be here every day is a blessing. When I connect to these moments, I really couldn’t ask for more.

I know this is a difficult one after last year, but do you have any tips for 2021?
Balance is key and health is wealth. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that taking care of our physical, mental, and emotional health should be at the top of our priority list. And this doesn’t mean overhauling our current practices with insane workout regimens or crash diets. It simply means taking things a day at a time, and with a far less critical eye. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but by making small, healthier choices every day, we can begin to step into the best version of ourselves. So my advice would be to be gentle with yourself, and seek progress, not perfection. You’ve got this!
