Why We Started Journaling in 2022
January…the month where everyone suddenly stops being their normal selves for a moment and starts working out like its their job, quitting alcohol and juicing everything in sight. Needless to say, it’s all pretty much over by the time the month ends. The only New Year's resolution we’ve made is one we know we’ll stick to, simply because it’s so easy, doesn’t require anything more than a pen and a notepad and the benefits are huge! Read on to find out why we’re journaling in January and beyond, and why you should too…

1. It’s a great mindfulness tool
0
Journaling for mental health is a brilliant form of selfcare. Keeping a mindfulness journal where you can just jot down things that have been playing on your mind instead of suppressing them makes them much easier to address and tackle. The simple act of putting pen to paper also provides a much needed break from the phone screen and its infamous blue light that wrecks havoc on sleeping patterns. Try replacing your pre-bedtime scroll with a few notes every evening and see what a difference it makes!

2. It clears space in your head for other more important things, (like outfit planning)
0
Our brains are always juggling so much at once, but they’re not always the best multi-taskers. Treat your journal as a place to store everything you don’t want to carry around with you on a daily basis to make the load a little bit lighter. This can be anything from creative ideas, to shopping lists, to important dates…like that baby shower you’d really rather avoid. ;)

3. There are zero rules
0
Whether you’re manifesting future goals or sketching a still life scene, what you do with your journal is completely up to you. Unlike so many other things in our lives, there are no set rules on how to journal, so just approach it how ever you prefer and enjoy the freedom!

4. It’ll give your self esteem a boost
00
Things move so fast in our lives that we often don’t take the time to give ourselves credit where it’s due. Journaling can be a great antidote for this. Writing down certain things that you’re proud of or simply listing your achievements can be a great way to elevate your self esteem. They can be as big as achieving a promotion or as little as finally keeping your plants alive!

5. It provides a sense of perspective
0
It sounds cliché, but sometimes perspective really is everything. We could all do with a reminder of this every now and then, and keeping a gratitude journal is great for it. An easy way to start is by listing everything you currently have now that you didn’t five years ago, as a way of remembering how far you’ve come and the certain things in your life that a younger version of you would have really appreciated. If that seems too daunting, instead, make a list of certain things that you’re grateful for. They could be as significant as a roof over your head, or as trivial as a good hair day!
